Lakshya Sen won the third senior international title of his fledgling career by defending the India international series title in Hyderabad yesterday. Lakshya beat Yee Han Chong of Malaysia in a tight three setter lasting 57 minutes, 21-15,17-21,21-17. He had to fight a pitched three set battle in the quarter finals against Academy mate Kiran George before upsetting the top seeded Abhishek Yeligar in the semis. Teenager Lakshya Sen has been quietly but surely making his presence felt in the world badminton in the senior ranks over the last one year. Seeded as high as No.1 among juniors in the world last year, it is true that he has not won either the prestigious Asian Junior or the World Junior Championships so far, but, he has already three International series titles to his credit. Having upset HS Prannoy to reach the finals of the senior national championships last year, he secured a creditable bronze in this year's edition, losing to World No, 2 Srikanth Kidambi this time. While continuing to be one of the top juniors in the world, he won the Eurasia Bulgarian Open this year Zvoniimir Durkiniak of Croatia in three games. He had also beaten Yee Han Chong in the second round of the Smiling Fish International Tournament last year. The academy is looking forward to many more significant wins from Lakshya and his talented academy mates.
