Meiraba reigns supreme; Dhrithi & Trisha clinch Doubles


Maisnam Meiraba annexed the Under 17 Boys' Singles title at the 42nd Junior National Badminton Championships which concluded in Guwahati yesterday. Meiraba, who won the national title without loss of a set, beat Amit Rathore 21-13, 21-10. He had won the bronze medal in the same event in the Korean Juniors a couple of weeks back. Meiraba has thus added to his collection of two Under 13 and one Under 15 National Boys' Singles titles. He was the bronze medallist in the Under 17 event last year when he lost to the eventual winner Kiran George after serving match points in the semis.

Dhrithi Yatheesh and Trisha Hegde pipped Keyura Mopati and Kavipriya in three close games 19-21, 21-15 and 22-20 in the Under 17 Girls' Doubles to win the title. Dhrithi and Trisha were the national champions in the Under 15 Girls' Doubles title two years back. Trisha also won the bronze medal in the Under 17 Girls' Singles when she lost to the eventual winner Akarshi Kashyap in the semis.

Rahul Bharadwaj ran out of luck in the finals of the Under 19 Boys' Singles when he finally succumbed to his Air India mate Aryaman Tandon 21-10, 18-21, 19-21 in a match lasting more than an hour. Rahul had miraculously escaped from the clutches of his academy mate Kiran George after saving two match points in the quarters. He fell short in the finals after saving two match points when down 17-20 down in the third. Arintap won the bronze medal in the Under 19 Boys' singles event.

Dhruv Rawat finished runner up in the Under 17 Boys' Doubles when he and partner Akash Yadav lost to Navneet Bakka and Vishnuvardhan Goud in the finals. Dhruv also won the bronze in the Under 17 singles.
