I don’t care if my opponent is 18 or 28: Junior world No 1 Lakshya Sen is ready for the big stage

The boy from Almora, who will just turn 16 in August, plans to play increasingly more on the senior circuit than the junior.

Lakshya Sen, 15, is walking off the court after a three-hour-long training session at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru. He heads straight to his chair on the sidelines, on which his kit bag and water bottle is kept. Seated on the chair next to his is Padukone himself. Together with Sen’s coach and academy co-founder Vimal Kumar, Padukone proceeds to engage the teenager in some technical talk about his game.

Lakshya wins Bronze at the Dutch Junior Championships

World Junior No. 1 Lakshya Sen fell at the penultimate hurdle in the Dutch Junior Championships which concluded in Haarlem, Netherlands yesterday. Lakshya lost to eventual winner Chen Chi Ting of Chinese Taipei 19-15, 15-21. He had a fairly easy time reaching the semis with wins over Mehmet Capar of Turkey 21-9, 21-7, Chong King Lim of Malaysia 21-10, 21-13, Takuma Obayashi of Japan 21-18, 21-15 amd Fpmg Hau Sim of Malaysia 21-19, 21-15.

Lakshya Sen claims silver in the Senior Nationals

Fifteen year old Lakshya Sen of Uttarakhand became the youngest so far to reach the finals of the Senior National Badminton Championship. Lakshya, trainee of the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy since 2009, bid to eclipse his mentor Prakash Padukone’s feat in winning the Senior National Badminton Championships at the age of 16 was foiled by Saurav Verma who beat him 21-13, 21-12.

The academy has five courts at the ultra modern K.Raheja Badminton Stadium which is only a five-minute drive from MG Road in Bangalore. Programmes

The Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) has collaborated with GoSports (India) Pvt.Ltd to setup the Elite Training Programme at its centre in Bangalore. This programme was conceptualised with the intent of having foreign teams come to the garden city of Bangalore and train at the world class facilities of the PPBA. We also run various Clinics and Exchange Programmes as well.
